I have more than two decades of experience as an attorney and litigator. My work has been primarily on the defense side, although I have handled plaintiff cases as well. I have tried hundreds of cases before the North Carolina Industrial Commission, as well as numerous jury trials in Superior and District Court. I have prosecuted and defended appeals at all levels of North Carolina's Appellate Court systems, and the decisions in several of my cases have been published by the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of North Carolina.I handle cases start to finish, from the initial meeting with clients, any necessary legal research, witness interviews, claim investigation, written discovery, lay and/or medical depositions, mediation, arbitration, hearing, trial, motions practice, submission of Briefs, oral argument, settlement, preparation of settlement contracts, review of settlement contracts and more. Many of my cases involve personal injury, but I have also handled many cases with alleged occupational exposure, including but not limited to asbestosis, silicosis, benzene and chromium exposure. I have litigated many cases involving complex medical issues involving serious injuries or death.In addition to personal injury work, I have litigated questions of insurance coverage, construction defects, breach of non-compete agreements and breach of contract matters. I have been certified as a mediator since 2006.I served on the North Carolina Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section Council from 2005-2008.I have been featured as a speaker or educator at numerous CLE/ continuing education and other conferences and seminars, including the 2017 North Carolina Industrial Commission Annual Conference. I have been involved with Kids Chance and 4All, and am a patron of the Jimmy V Foundation.My free time generally is spent with my two teenage daughters and my insane dog. I am an avid runner and enjoy reading, baseball and college basketball.
