Prior to retiring Stephen was the Head of Leadership, Talent and Culture. From 2005, he was responsible for business development, innovation and strategy for one of the largest operating groups at Macquarie. He was then appointed inaugural Global Head of Compliance for Macquarie in 2011 and supported the Board and senior management through a period of extreme market volatility and significant regulatory change.His career has taken him across a diverse range of organisations, cultures and countries. Prior to Macquarie, Stephen was the Head of Legal for the Investment Bank of Bankers Trust Australia; a lecturer at the Law Faculty, University New South Wales; a regulatory lawyer with the Companies and Securities Advisory Committee NSW and the Ontario Securities Commission, Canada.He holds an LLB (Trinity College Dublin), LLM (University of Toronto) and practiced as a solicitor in Ireland and NSW. He is an accredited executive coach and a human-centred design practitioner.
