The European Dipole (Edipo), 12.5 T superconducting cable test facility:• managed the Edipo control system project,• coordinated activities of operators, technical staff, and external companies,• oversaw the commissioning, including the benchmark test,• planning of interventions and tests,• investigation of quenches/safety discharges,• specification of instrumentation and components,• successfully devised and implemented monitoring systems (strain & helium flow).Research on superconducting cables with the Sultan test facility:• testing and analysis of cable-in-conduit conductors for Iter,• directed standard tests, carried out at 4.5 K, 10.8 T, 68 kA,• responsible for additional research on cable slippage and residual jacket strain,• reporting to Iter IO and publication in peer-reviewed journals,• directed the operators during test campaigns.Non-destructive examination:• responsible for developing a non-destructive examination for Iter TF joints,• management of a project on a tight time scale,• project planning for workshop & test facilities.Engineering advice:• provided technical expertise to the group on as a needed basis,• mechanical, thermal, & fluid analyses,• specification of components, including safety valves and control needles.

The application of high temperature superconducting materials to power switches:• researched and developed this novel device into a tested prototype,• developed computer models for effective analysis and optimisation,• analysed quench behaviour of the switch and its influence on magnet protection,• created and tested prototype switches,• collaboration & planning with other groups for measurements on shared facilities.• Additional work included analysis of the CERN current leads, including measurements in the LHC tunnel and in purpose made test facilities.
