I went into the project (Assisted Living Home) on Duke St. and took measurements to recreate the floor plan and then added five bedrooms to the plan and created elevations and a 3D model of the facility and details.

I am Stephen E. Mentzer and I want to tell you about my connection and desire to design interior and exterior of houses. My connection to the construction industry began when my father, who was a building inspector for the city of Portland, and also bought real estate, taught me to build houses. Also in high school I took a couple of classes where I was involved in building a couple of houses. For 2 summers after graduation from high school I helped build 6 houses. I mentored a fellow construction worker on how to build the framing and roof a house. My experience in construction is building and pouring the foundation, and then all framing such as: floor joists, sub floor, framing, ceiling joists, trusses, roofing and also sheet rocking.After 30 years of working for the Multnomah Law Library on their computers my desire is to return to my 1st love of designing houses. Designing and creating houses are in my DNA. I am excited at the possibilities of using my skills with computers (Sketchup and rendering software) at building 3D models and to help with house plans. I can create the model with as much detail as needed. The model can be viewed at any angle with walls being added or removed. I am able to take the blue prints and import them into Sketchup and/or BIM drawing. I am also able to go into a remodel job and take measurements and ad them to the blueprints as needed. if you have old prints I can recreate the drawings. I have worked here for 32 years doing many tasks. I have built many computer programs that we have used for several years. I have built our catalog system that contained more than 15,000 records. I have also created our website that had been used for 10 years by attorneys and also the general public and then I have created our accounting software that we used for accounts receivables and payable for more than 20 years. I have cared for accounts ranging in the amounts of over 1,000,000 dollars per year. In 2012 I have taken the lead in helping to reduce the Libraries size by closing one of our two branches. I hired 6 college students to help me to move the library out we worked day in and day out for 4 months we moved more than 100,000 books to our storage area and also 15 tons of shelving and the all furniture. The students respected my leadership at all times and would not quit even though I told them to go home for the night. my next project to work on was to organize our warehouse that had been hoarded for more than 45 years and the books were in no order. There was a total of 300 tons of boxes of old books that I have sent to recycling and then I took the books we wanted to keep and I organized them on the shelves which took me a year and a half to organize and clean the warehouse. I started cataloging each book.
