While I've held military leadership positions in the past, this is my first time running a flight within my own career field and I'm loving every minute of it.

In addition to monitoring each member's current training level and identifying any capability gaps, I sought out funding for and coordinated specialized training to meet emerging threats for both stateside and overseas contingencies.In light of the low manning faced by our flight, I focused my efforts on improving the efficiency of our training programs and ensuring that our personnel were operationally ready. In my short time in this role, I improved flight readiness by increasing the tempo of training operations, reducing the average time taken to complete upgrade training, and implementing a new physical training program ahead of my career fields implementation of the Tier 2 fitness transformation. On a broader level, I chaired the Training Working Group, through which I evaluated existing programs and policies and make decisions that impact the readiness of the entire EOD career field. While the task was daunting at first, I was encouraged by my supervisors' confidence in my leadership and interpersonal skills, and I knew the opportunity was not one to pass up. In this role, I had the privilege of mentoring first-term Airmen across the spectrum of Civil Engineers, built professional relationships with military and civilian personnel from two of my sister services, and gained invaluable perspective as to how my own career field fits into the wider operational goals of both the Air Education & Training Command and the entire United States Air Force. I actively sought out ways to facilitate and amend existing processes and improve the quality of life of the instructors and students under my supervision and secured additional contracts to support my team. Through these contracts—such as one that hired contracted equipment and facilities maintenance for the schoolhouse—I increased the resources available to the flight and reduced the burden placed on the technical school instructors, leaving a positive legacy when I left Sheppard for my next position.
