I am a Web programmer, database designer and developer, as well as a system administrator. I am also a professional librarian who has worked in academic libraries for 15+ years including the Ohio State University, the UNC Charlotte, and UT San Antonio. As a system administrator, my task has been to create and maintain the infrastructure to host these applications and to maintain 24/7 up time for all servers (which I have done). As a developer, my focus has been has been twofold: a) creating customized applications to assist users in finding and using information; and b) developing ways to mine data resources from data previously unavailable to researchers, utilizing modern information retrieval principles to organize and provide the data. In my previous positions, I have created a number of applications, including multi-resource institutional repository and and integrated digital library applications, a knowledge-base-backed reference advisory program, several Special Collections inventory control systems, and a OAI-PMH information retrieval system to integrate the searching over all of these resources.Colleagues know me as a highly creative and innovative programmer who can address specific problems and implement appropriate solutions. While I can (and often do) work alone, I have found that working collaboratively with others ends up providing the best results. Therefore, I undertake iterative development in which all stakeholders have a say in what the final product will look like and how it functions. This means my taking the time to understand what the end users need and how they do their work before beginning a project.I have a Master's of Science degree from the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information and am ABD on a Doctorate from the University of Illinois School of Music.I’m currently pursuing new opportunities and can be reached either through this profile or by phone at 541-223-2419.
