At GDMS I was responsible for managing software interfaces to optical devices, which would assist in automating the testing process for our products. This involved combining C++, Qt, and in-house software to work with multiple different physical devices. To accelerate this development, I developed a device simulator in Python to allow software engineers to test the interface without needing physical access to the device. Finally, I was also responsible for reworking existing interfaces to enhance the user experience for the engineers using the system.

To support our robotic command & control operations, I was given an assignment to develop several ROS nodes. This primarily involved using the C++ ROS interface to process user input into commands for the robot. One of the obstacles I encountered was that our team would not have full access to the robot until after my internship had ended. To help remedy this, I developed a visualization to demonstrate how our existing pieces would work together. This allowed the team to check that our existing software had the desired results, and could later provide a valuable second source of feedback when working with the robot.

During my first internship at GDMS, I designed several interfaces between an in-house software solution and various physical devices. I would go on to use these interfaces to create automated tests and visualizations for incoming data. As a member of a small software development team, I would attend and present results in daily Scrum standups, and would eventually be responsible for training a new hire on the project-specific details.

During my time at Timescale (then “iobeam”), I was responsible for several projects demonstrating the viability of iobeam’s product. My first task was to work with another intern to develop an algorithm modeling the usage of NYC Citibike over time. This model was prototyped in R and later ported to SCALA in order to handle live data. After this, I was responsible for running benchmarks on InfluxDB in order to compare the results with Timescale’s performance. Finally, I was responsible for developing an automated test suite in Selenium for Timescale’s web interface; once finished, I ported this to Java in order to run it automatically on a headless server with Docker.

At Grand Central Tech, I was assigned to work with iobeam, a startup within GCT creating a data analysis platform for the Internet of Things. To demonstrate iobeam’s data collection and distribution capabilities, I developed an Android app that would automatically collect and upload data from a wearable device to iobeam’s servers. I would go on to demo this app to an assembly of investors and entrepreneurs at Goldman Sachs.
