In my role at University of California, Riverside, I focused on bringing Scrum and Agile project management to our campus IT organization. My responsibilities included general Scrum education and formal trainings, in addition to running projects using Scrum. One project I led included managing the design and development of a user-facing Identity Management application for the University, and collaborating with our Communications and Help Desk teams to enroll approximately 40,000 users in multi-factor authentication over the course of five months.

On a temporary basis, I took on the job duties of the Assistant Director of Identity Management. I was responsible for operations, including responding to service incidents and outages; strategic planning, including running a team retreat; and general personnel management, including performance management and career development.

In addition to my Senior Information Design Specialist role, I started managing a four-person team of developers and designers who create the front-end portions of the web applications produced by Technology Services at the University of Illinois. As of July 2015, I also began managing a two-person team focused on continuous improvement in software development practices.With these two teams, I focus on developing each individual through weekly one-on-one meetings, quarterly goal reviews, and annual formal performance appraisals. I seek out growth opportunities for my staff, and position them to achieve organizational objectives by helping them connect their work with the vision put forth by leadership.I work with each team to develop road maps for service improvement, and then manage projects to carry out and implement these improvements.

I work with IT professionals to create usable, sustainable web apps for various audiences at the university. I use computer-based usability evaluations as well as paper-based methods, such as card sorting and paper prototyping. I incorporate the results of these evaluations as I design user interface components, and I test those components with software developers and users alike before releasing the finished product. I also compose in-application documentation and edit help information, error messages, and other types of text across software suites to ensure completeness and correctness.

I worked with a team of programmers, designers and tech support specialists to maintain the content management system that drives most of the University's websites, including the websites for USU Cooperative Extension. I provided customer support, training, and documentation for end users. I also coordinated team resources and helped manage workflow within the team.

I first maintained and eventually rebuilt the Writing Center website. I also assisted students and faculty with the software and hardware in the computer lab of the English building.

For this internship, I focused on building a network of Utah growers as part of the Utah's Own program. I developed professional relationships with many Utah growers, and managed a database that contained their contact information. I also designed a brochure and business card set to help us network.

As a technical writer, I drafted and edited a help file to accompany a software plugin for MapWindow, a mapping software. I worked directly with the software developer, and we held weekly check-in meetings to review my work and make sure it mapped accurately to the software. It was distributed to Utah public works employees, and was still in use as of Fall 2010.
