Project Leader, Advanced Concepts / Materials Development & Innovation
Research, development and commercialisation of materials and products which can be ultimately aligned with the Reebok business strategy, and can be considered for incorporation into future marketing campaigns and product ranges. Strict procedures adhered to, with regard to proof of product and product viability, in terms of durability, availability, pricing, sources and longevity.
Senior Manager Material Innovation - Textiles
Providing a development channel for the many business units in the brand, providing progress of research on innovations currently hot in and out of the apparel industry. The role was to provide updates on innovations Adidas are working on, why those technologies are thought to be on trend/fit for the business, and how it is envisaged that those technologies should, and could be incorporated into imminent / near future apparel seasons. My role was to make promises and keep to them, providing innovations on time, with correct characteristics, on price targets, ensuring minimum disruption to the business during innovation inception. Constant liaison with marketing colleagues was crucial during the entire developmental process.
Performance Fabrics Designer / Developer
Began as CAD designer (Photoshop-based), on designs for sportswear brands. As fabrics began to change in 1998, visual designs became less of a priority and fabric function became a must-have in the apparel industry. Moisture management and fabric quality were of utmost importance. Pricing was a major factor in the development of the fabrics, from yarn choice through to finishing processes. My role very quickly moved with the times, and the fabric knowledge had to step up in order for the business to compete amongst an increasing number of overseas fabric and garment businesses.Understanding of how apparel brands worked, and possessing fabric knowledge aided my next career move, following these 8 years.
