Whilst still a very hands-on role my remit includes coordinating and delivery of all clay modelling activities. This includes the implementation of digital data capture, utilising a 3D handheld scanner which delivers high quality data outputs into digital polygon models from physical clay surfaces which are captured.In addition to this my role includes utilisation and operation of 3 Axis on plate milling machines to deliver accurate representations of digital data into physical clay models. This is made possible with teh use of Autodesk Powermill software tool path creation which I am gaining fluency in to profficiently streamline workflows. This enables enhance creative timelines with greater fluidity and flexibility. This therefore connects both physical and digital forms enhancing the capabilities of our department. In amongst implementing, adapting and resourcing the digital data capture and machining in collaboration with the clay I am equally active in physical clay model development from sketch modelling through to feasibility appropriate finish, liaising, and working with numerous customers within design such as studio engineers and designers to deliver high quality clay models to an appropriate finish for each deliverable and gateway.

Our role was diverse, challenging and different in many ways from other roles I have performed. As with many roles within the automotive industry it involved pulling on experiential knowledge and expertise from years of model making and show car building.

Contribute and apply knowledge and skills to build high quality design solutions, models and show models.

Assist in prototype Pattern making and model making to produce high quality moulds and models. Utilising CNC machining methodologies alongside traditional pattern making skillsets and techniques.

Clay Model creation, development and finishing. Utilisation of 3 Axis Milling machines, first ITP and then Kolb. Delivering amongst a team of highly skilled clay modellers and a wider team of customers including designers, studio engineers, colour & materials and CAD modellers, quality models to meet differing gateways and deliverables for reviews and engineering requirements. Sketch modelling, finish modelling, feasibility model delivery. Dressing of models to a variety of standards, from Di-Noc to painted models with hard parts and componentry.Trained in the use of Creaform Handy Scan surface data capture and processing.
