I'm currently working as a social scientist at AgResearch, focusing on farming behaviour change - examining the social and psychological factors that drive the adoption and extension of new agricultural practices and technologies. I am also interested in the changing relationship that farming communities have with agricultural research, and how this influences both on-farm research and the dissemination of knowledge.

Leading the research, development, and analysis phases of an innovative risk-reduction tool that provides for the early detection of hazardous workplaces, identifying and preventing potential accidents.

I have previously represented the interests of post-graduate students regarding ethical foundations in human and animal research. The Human Research Ethics Council (HREC) involves the oversight of ethics related to ensuring human and animal wellbeing under experimental and post-experimental conditions. I presently share this role with a fellow post-graduate colleague given the increased number of applications, primarily related to psychological, biomedical and health sciences.

My doctoral work involves examining the relationship between specific characteristics of driver performance, with a particular emphasis on young novice drivers, and developing training which actively improves hazard perception. Young drivers are over-represented in crash statistics in New Zealand, as well as internationally, and so it is vital to develop training based on ‘higher-level’ techniques which engage prefrontal executive function rather than basic skill-based training. Higher-level training shows promise, and so it may be beneficial to develop driver education based on our understanding of adolescent development (more to come shortly).

I represent the interests of post-graduate students across the University by advising the HREC on matters related to post-graduate studies.

Tutored in General and Experimental Psychology, Research Methods, Cognitive, Perceptual, and Physiological Psychology; Co-coordinated first-year social psychology paper; and have given lectures to both undergraduate and graduate students.

My role was leading small-group Biblical studies, engaging in individual discipleship and counsel, and was active in evangelical conversations among Victoria University students.Other roles included group leadership, strategic planning, public speaking, and support raising for the ministry.

Tutored a number of first, second, and third-year psychology papers (including cognitive, general and experimental, and research methods). Additionally during this time I worked as an assistant to the resident Waikato University Scientific Glass-blower, and in the Sciences Store with annual stock and chemical store inventory.
