The common qualities of my career: Teamwork, community and service.First as an award-winning journalist and editor, and then as a PR pro and educator, I’ve focused on making the world a better place through all three of those qualities. The first portion of my career involved working with and guiding a team every day to produce an award-winning community newspaper – the result was seven Michigan Newspaper of the Year awards from the Michigan Press Association. The second portion has focused on education - teaching journalism, media and communication – and advising student publications and the Society of Professional Journalists at Central Michigan University. I was fortunate to work with a great staff at Grand Central Magazine when it won the 2018 Online Pacemaker from the Collegiate Press Association. I’ve also served as a communications staffer on a couple different political campaigns – a different perspective on politics from my journalism career, and a great teamwork and service to democracy experience. In 2022, I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Communication from Central Michigan University. Going back to school many years after my first degree was a bit scary but very rewarding. I’d recommend it as an experience – learn, grow, get out of your comfort zone.Always learning, always growing, always focused on teamwork, community and service – that’s my calling.
