For our internal transportation and thriving communities team, I provide guidance and support on strategic communications, long-term planning and initiatives, fundraising, branding, and content development, while also serving as a primary deputy to the team's VP and Director of Transportation for America.

As the director responsible for all external communications for the organization, I ran Smart Growth America's strategic, goal-oriented communications in service of our mission and overall brand. I operated as a trusted advisor to all fellow senior staff, team leads, and program directors, managed our staff of communications pros and directed their work across numerous programs, and oversaw the process of creating content, releasing reports and growing the base of supporters who support our work and overall mission of improving lives by improving the communities we call home. In a job that was a blend of the strategic and the tactical, I also oversaw all of our digital assets, web development and content, online recruitment efforts, grassroots e-advocacy, social media presences, visual branding and design, and overall media strategy.

I'm responsible for managing all day-to-day content production as well as maintaining the big picture view of the organization's strategic position and brand. In addition to regularly writing, producing and editing content of all types, like original research reports, blog posts, press releases, and in-depth reported pieces; I directly oversee all of our digital assets, web development and content, online recruitment efforts, grassroots e-advocacy, and social media presences. I also manage the process for all materials production, including visual branding and design for all reports and releases. And I direct our media strategy and manage those external relationships.(I served as T4America Communications Associate from 2008-2010 and as Deputy Communications Director from 2010-2015 before being promoted to Director in June of 2015. I was promoted to Director of Communications for Smart Growth America, T4America's parent organization, in July 2017.)

As an associate-level online coordinator beginning in 2008 (sharing time with Smart Growth America) and as deputy communications director from 2010-2015, I helped implement all of Transportation for America's strategic communications. I wrote, produced and edited the majority of our day-to-day external communications, including select research reports, most blog posts, press releases and in-depth reported pieces. I was responsible for all of the organization's digital assets, including online e-advocacy and social media presences, and I managed the process for all materials production internally and with outside contractors, including visual branding and design for all reports and releases.

As an associate, I was responsible for generating content, writing newsletters, managing websites, writing speeches, and handling communications output for Smart Growth America, a nationwide coalition of national, state, and local organizations that advocate a better way to grow.

I was an award-winning photojournalist for the daily newspaper in Bentonville, Arkansas for two years. In this position, I photographed all assignments for the paper, and was responsible for generating and documenting story ideas for the paper.
