Sierra Nevada Corp (SNC) Space Systems main initiative was to win NASA Commercial Crew Program competition. In support of this initiative, SNC has developed and manufactured a state of the art Low Earth Orbital spacecraft prototype called the Dream Chaser. I supported the Electrical Power System IPT, the Avionics IPT, the Communications and Guidance IPT, and the Electrical/Electronic/Electromechanical Parts Control group to ensure NASA requirements and workmanship standards are flowed down into the appropriate SNC and supplier documents, processes and procedures. Also responsible for implementing Lean/Six Sigma.

Code 3, Inc. is an industry leader in the manufacture of emergency vehicle lighting utilizing LED technology and sound systems. Code 3 manufactures many of the flashing, directional and auxiliary lights on top of and around police, fire truck, ambulance and utility vehicles. They also manufacture siren systems for those same vehicles. They are the supplier of choice to Federal law enforcement agencies such as Homeland Security and the FBI. I was responsible for ensuring the quality of incoming material, parts, subassemblies and assemblies as well as assisting the manufacturing floor with problem investigation and resolution. Duties included setting up and monitoring receiving inspection; reviewing supplier PPAP submittals; mentoring and training inspection staff; assessing supplier quality management systems; assisting with auditing internal processes and procedures as part of the AS9100 self governance program; and participating on shop floor and supplier continuous improvement activities (worked with Code 3 Engineering to update and standardize their Paint and Electrical Engineering Design Standards). Code 3 is a great organization with great products.

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) now Leidos brings a mix of innovative technology and sector expertise to customers. I was hired by SAIC to support the US Army's Future Combat Systems program. The Future Combat Systems program was envisioned to create new brigades equipped with new manned and unmanned vehicles linked by an unprecedented fast and flexible battlefield network. The Boeing Company and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) worked together as the lead systems integrator, coordinating more than 550 contractors and subcontractors in 41 states. I was tasked to support the Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and the Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) IPTs. My primary responsibility was to ensure major contractors such as Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics Robotic Systems, BAE, Northrop Grumman, and iRobot met program contractual requirements and expectations. This included assessing supplier manufacturing and quality capabilities (Industrial Capability Assessment); identifying and managing program and product risks; mentoring and developing suppliers with implementation of Advanced Quality systems (AS9100), concepts(Lean/Six Sigma) and methods (SPC, Variation Management, FMEA); monitoring test failures to ensure proper identification of the root cause and implementation of effective corrective action. Later I transition to the MRAP program in Kuwait as a Facility Coordinator. I was able to apply Advance Quality methods and techniques (Lean/Six Sigma, Risk Management, Root Cause Corrective Action, etc.) to ensure facility met US Army work and safety standards.

Originally hired as a Flight Ramp Mechanic assigned to the Production Avionics Lab to test, repair and program F15 Eagle and F18 Hornet Radars, Flight Computers, Inertial Navigation Systems, Horizontal Situational Indicators, Heads Up Displays, and Multi-Purpose Displays. In 1987, I transition into the Quality Engineer department. Assignments included stints in Receiving and Shipping, the Machining Center, Wire Harness Crib, AV8 Harrier and T45 Goshawk Final Assembly and Flight Ramp, F18 International Program (Canada), JDAM smart munitions, Apache Longbow Trainer (Simulators), and Supplier Management. Duties initially was primarily focused on root cause analysis and corrective action but later progressively began to shift toward process improvement and identifying capable suppliers. I attended McDonnell Aircraft/Boeing company training classes in TQM, SPC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Design for Manufacturing/Assembly, SPC, GD&T, and Blueprint Reading. McDonnell Aircraft/Boeing is a great organization building a great product.
