Over the course of the last four decades, I've dedicated my career to the dynamic world of Information Technology. Throughout this extensive journey, I've held various roles encompassing IT management, IT support, team leadership, security, project management, and infrastructure implementation. One of the most rewarding phases of my career spanned a decade at the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, a prominent not-for-profit organization based in Melbourne. During my tenure, I led a transformative endeavor to rebuild and revamp the entire IT infrastructure from the ground up. This monumental task covered 26 sites, 50 shops, and 3 major multi-story facilities. I enjoyed the autonomy of being the architect of various layers of infrastructure and seamlessly weaving them together to ensure sustainability. This comprehensive overhaul included establishing a new IT support team, instituting governance and policies, enhancing security systems, implementing wireless networks, cabling, setting up a hybrid cloud environment to replace existing on premiss servers, sourcing and deploying new desktops and printers, phones, major software systems and policies. The entire experience was a thrilling journey that could be summed up as 'strategic'.My career has been marked by the successful management of multiple concurrent projects. I thrive on crafting strategies and practical solutions to complex challenges and then seeing them through to fruition. While there's nothing left to prove in my field, I remain deeply passionate about continuous learning, management, and security.I have completed the Graduate Diploma in IT management and am now looking towards a Graduate Diploma in statistics, after this; Cybersecurity. However, I believe that my true strength lies in analytical thinking, strategic planning and effective people management. In retrospection, I find immense satisfaction in bringing order to chaos, not only in my professional life but also in my personal pursuits. In my free time, I've ventured into creative outlets, authoring a science fiction novel and painting regularly. I dabble in playing the guitar, though my son is the true musician in the family. On Sundays, you can find me on the tennis court, religiously dedicated to the game. I relish the occasional bush-walk to reconnect with nature and engage in home renovation projects when the opportunity arises. My coin collection continues to grow. Looking ahead, my long-term aspiration is to learn the art of sailing a yacht and potentially live that seafaring lifestyle in retirement.
