My career so far has centered on the casting industry with both sand and investment casting experience. I have worked with developing parts to meet customer’s metallurgical and dimensional needs, running multiple manufacturing teams, leading LEAN initiatives across the entire workflow of a casting, and stabilizing and removing cost on legacy part programs. I also had a time of Program management on development (NPI) product that involved heavy concurrent engineering with the customer. This has led to a broad and deep understanding of what it takes to make a successful casting which allows me to quickly identify problems and implement solutions. It also helps me work with employees on the shop floor which is a critical link in solving casting issues. That combined with my technical understanding of data collection and analysis has been key to my success in solving part issues. My most current position in Process Control has allowed me to use my entire value stream knowledge to target improvements in all areas that reduce rework and cost on downstream operations. I also have been helping developing a culture of not passing on defects, improving feedback to employees, and understanding the implications of unintended consequences from early on changes. Finally, I have been able to put into practice my love of data and statistics by furthering our SPC and a daily refocus on what is driving variability in our process.

I worked in the Titanium Production Engineering group for the Large Parts Campus (LPC). I was both a part and dimensional engineer with a focus on stator rings. Job responsibilities included part quality improvements, part dimensional improvements, responding to customer issues / cost take out projects, developing rework plans to ship parts, and capturing best practices to update floor work instructions. I performed process data collection and statistical analysis of labor hours and defect counts to validate true process issues and that improvement projects had the desired results. I created and reviewed process capability for part features, suggested spec limit changes based on process data, and initiated and sign off on 100% part dimensional layouts. I also created control charts to evaluate parts for dimensional shifts and apply corrective actions as needed. To help employees on the floor, I created excel programs that allowed them to set process parameters without having to contact engineering as well as working with inspection teams to reduce variability in inspection techniques, defect evaluation, and rework instructions. I used Solidworks to validate CMM hits, and determine alignment shifts to best balance the features. I also generated reference models from blue prints to understand machine stock, build templates and fixtures. I have designed Gage R &R’s to evaluate inspector performance and identify improvement opportunities. Finally, I have initiated multiple DOE’s to evaluate ceramic core performance, shell cracking, and hot tears. Past accomplishments include: shrink reduction, ceramic core breakage elimination, re heat treat elimination due to dimensional non-conformances, thin wall elimination on multiple parts, ceramic inclusion reduction, and shell crack reduction. I also assumed the responsibility of a Development Engineer and Program Manager for Ti parts on the GE9x for the last year in this role.
I supervised 70+ hourly employees and a salary employee in my rotations thru Wax Assembly, Development Wax Assembly, Wax Injection Molding, and the Ti Investment departments. I worked to improve the safety of my departments by both employee coaching and awareness as well as upgrading equipment and PPE. I was responsible for staffing levels, hiring new employees, ordering supplies, quarterly budget review and budget setting, as well as hitting the budget on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis. I scheduled product to support throughput goals and created excel programs to allow for quick throughput commits in each department I ran. I implemented and sustained employee evaluation metrics for quality and efficiency, coached lower performers to hit department goals, and leveraged high performer's skills and knowledge to improve department performance. As a LEAN leader I worked on waste elimination project with the employees and team leads, reorganized floor layouts to improve flow, instituted employee suggestion boards, implemented standardized work stations, and taught LEAN principles to employees. I worked on Kaizen events in my own departments, departments around my home plant, and departments in other plants at multiple other locations.
Reduced part cost and improved part quality while reducing variation in the manufacturing process. Corresponded with customers on non conformance issues and responded to shop floor issues to keep part moving thru the process. Developed labor tracking charts to respond to part problems in a faster time period.

Designed risering and gating systems for steel, stainless steel, and nickel sand castings up to 70,000 lb pour weights. Reviewed blue prints to patterns for correct run set up and gave dimensional change instructions to pattern shops as needed. Developed and updated shop floor instructions and process control records. Followed parts through the foundry process to determine root causes of casting defects and designed process fixes.
