Our small team takes care of all things related to parks, from facilities to vegetation, ball fields to trash cans, skate parks to forest lands. Each day is unique: our work flows with seasons, fluctuating public demand, and diverse locations on fascinating Fidalgo Island.

• Perform habitat restoration activities on multiple sites, including: adaptive management of invasive species; assessing needs for, requesting, and outplanting native plants; seed collection; conducting vegetative inventory and monitoring projects; and preparing reports related to restoration activities according to established protocol.• Lead and co-lead volunteer work days: Sunday Presidio Park Stewards (PPS); and other school, community, and corporate groups, in weeding and planting programs; entails instructing new volunteers and students on the proper methodology for restoration techniques, motivating these crews, and creating a safe, positive, educational, and rewarding work environment.• Assist in hiring, and directly supervise, a four- to five-person crew of Seasonal Biological Science Technicians in site work (planting, weeding, monitoring, seed collection).• Act as direct manager and mentor for one habitat restoration intern; and in a general supervisory and mentor role for other interns associated with PPS program; supervise, train, create work plans, and track hours of “Stewards Guild” volunteers, who adopt restoration sites which they tend in their free time.• As avian lead for Presidio Natural Resources, meet the following needs: perform bird nesting surveys for colleagues; lead monthly bird walks for the public; train other bird surveyors.• Assist NPS staff with annual monitoring program for endangered and rare plant species on restoration sites. • Use GPS unit to collect, store, and analyze site-specific attributes of ecological interest at restoration sites; work with GIS specialist to create maps interpreting such information.• Oversee tool room, ensuring tools are available, safely stored and organized, and working properly; lead monthly tool stewardship effort to harness team energy; order new tools and safety supplies as needed.
