At the time Steve came to Sydney, the initial foundations of functional capability were widely implemented across the state, with a desire to expand both horizontally across new venues of care, as well as in depth, using more capabilities in the areas in use. This provided Steve and the Cerner team the opportunity to partner with NSW Health on several programs of work that will reap benefits for years to come. Two programs in particular worth mentioning Community Health and Outpatient Care (CHOC) , Electronic Medications Management (eMeds). These two programs of work have exposed thousands of new end users to functional capabilities that have increased their efficiency and the safety they are able to instill in their patient care experiences. Financially, Steve was able to substantially decrease the DSO of invoices, resulting from an improved working relationship with the clients he served. Contracting was streamlined by agreeing on standard terms which could be used in a more efficient way, and were for over 100 contracts, worth over $60M in bookings during this time period. Show less

Additionally, given the statewide nature of the implementation, there was an extra focus on domain strategies to allow for both flexibility and efficiency in rolling out a statewide design and build, working within the boundaries of the software's capabilities. Pulling it all together, strong program management skills were necessary to manage the large risk profile of a first-of-a-kind implementation of the sort that the State of Victoria was embarking on.The crowning achievement of the time in this role was the first conversion of the Australian Medicines Terminology being delivered through the Cerner Millennium system. This milestone set the stage for implementations which would occur years into the future through several regions in the country - all delivering on the promise of value and return on investment by way of safety, quality and efficiency gains.
