About Steve Mcgee
As a full-stack developer, I love to solve interesting problems with code but I especially love the backend. Basically, I'm a Node fan-boy, but learning other backend languages would be a good time. My professional experience includes React, React Native, Node.js, Hapi, Express, PostgreSQL, Hasura, CouchDB, Elasticsearch, Serverless, GraphQL, Jest, Mocha/Chai, some AWS services (Lambda, S3, Cloudwatch, API Gateway, EC2), Docker, and Ruby on Rails.One of the things that I have really enjoyed learning is writing clean and modular code. I enjoy working with a team and collaborating on ideas, being able to help others with things I have learned and utilizing other's skills that I haven't mastered yet. I have a strong sense of personal accountability, a positive attitude, and a team-oriented spirit.Prior to this career (in my former life), I'd been a residential designer and structural roof designer. Is this related to software development? You bet it is! - Having a set of requirements that need to make it into the final design of the project and often have to compromise or balanced to meet the needs of all parties.- Leading a design team I was both learning and mentoring.- Evaluating software solutions for residential design is much like evaluating software tools, frameworks, etc.I have discovered that, for me, software development has that same excitement and joy that comes from taking a vision/idea, working out the problems, and developing it into a project that gets used by real people.
