  • Scottish Enterprise
Agile Coach / Delivery & Programme Manager
Scottish Enterprise Oct 2014 - Present
    Glasgow / Stirling, United Kingdom
Leading SAFe 5.0 Agilist & BCS certified Agile Practitioner in the Service Design team within Scottish Enterprise. Initially led the development of both the "Innovation" and "Exporting" workstreams to use digital channels to support Scottish businesses as they broaden and deepen their exporting and innovation activities. Working in a self-organising team of about 10 colleagues, we investigated and developed the SE digital channels to improve the end-to-end delivery of products and services to our customers.
  • Scottish Enterprise
    Project Manager, Sharepoint Intranet Implementation
    Scottish Enterprise Jan 2014 - Oct 2014
    Stirling
Project Manager on the Phase 1 development to move the current Scottish Enterprise intranet from an Obtree technical platform onto the SharePoint 2010 environment. The Obtree platform had been used for several years and was no longer fit for purpose. The project itself lasted approximately 10 months and involved liaison with external suppliers, internal colleagues, a Project Board, organisational stakeholders, delivery partners and, of course, end users. I project managed, and also completed specific work activities, across the whole project. I led on supplier procurement, web analytics, development of training material, project planning, financial planning, reporting and the creation and submission of project approval papers. The new SharePoint intranet was launched in October 2014 and serves approximately 1,200 colleagues located across the globe in all of SE and SDI offices. Delivering this SharePoint intranet now enables SE to quickly develop new intranet features to satisfy current and emerging business requirements, including greater collaboration across individual teams, company directorates and external partners.
  • Scottish Enterprise
Web Project Manager, Scottish Business Portal
    Scottish Enterprise Apr 2011 - Jan 2014
    Stirling, Scotland
Working with the Scottish Government and many other external partners including Government Digital Services (GDS), I helped deliver the Scottish Business Portal at http://www.business.scotland.gov.uk/. This aggregator site provides a single support point for Scottish businesses to start-up and grow. Governance and delivery of the Scottish Business Portal is now managed as part of the Scottish Government's "mygov.scot" programme. The majority of my time from Nov 2011 through Oct 2012 was spent as project manager on the 'Access to Finance' service at http://www.finance.scotland.gov.uk/. This website fulfilled an SNP election manifesto pledge to provide a "Finance Hub" to help Scottish companies start-up and grow.
  • Scottish Enterprise
Web Content Team Leader, Business Gateway Website
    Scottish Enterprise Apr 2009 - Apr 2011
    Stirling, Scotland
Headed up the Web Content Team to deliver and manage the Business Gateway website (http://www.bgateway.com) for Scotland. This involved managing a content team to ensure the site met customer needs, supported wider project developments and was integrated with "sister" websites provided in the Devolved Administrations of Wales and Northern Ireland. The role also involved close liaison with other UK-Government departments (Serco, BusinessLink, HMRC, etc) to ensure strategic programme projects were delivered consistently across the UK.
  • Scottish Enterprise
    Se.Com Team Leader
    Scottish Enterprise Sep 2007 - Apr 2009
    Glasgow, Scotland
Led the team that managed the strategic development of the central Scottish Enterprise website (http://www.scottish-enterprise.com) to marry up customer top tasks with corporate objectives. This team also included responsibility for the SE intranet.Project managed the successful delivery of a re-launched SE.com website to accommodate changes across Scotland's Enterprise Agencies that were introduced by the new Scottish Government. This also allowed us the opportunity to move towards a "task-based approach" for website delivery, which meant identifying our customers' top tasks, and then simplifying the completion, measurement and improvement of these tasks. This significant piece of work was undertaken with support from Gerry McGovern and his "Customer Carewords" approach.I also project managed the delivery of a new web platform for the main Scottish Enterprise website, which involved the migration from the then Obtree platform to the new SiteCore platform. This allowed greater efficiencies to be made by aligning with other SE business support websites - such as SDI - onto a single, managed web platform.
  • Scottish Enterprise
    Web Channel Development Manager
    Scottish Enterprise Jul 2006 - Sep 2007
    Glasgow, Scotland
Managed a team of 4 people to develop, improve and maintain the main SE.com website. This was most notably achieved through the development of specific web projects, including web analytics reporting, to help internal colleagues meet and continually support external customer requirements.
  • Scottish Development International
    Web Manager (Www.Sdi.Co.Uk)
Scottish Development International Sep 2000 - Jul 2006
    Glasgow, Scotland
Managed the development of the Scottish Development International (SDI) website from launch in 2001 for approximately 6 years. The work during this time was varied and extensive, and involved the management of a number of strategic activities including: content development, web analytics; e-marketing; search engine optimisation; foreign language support (French, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese); supplier management (including BBC MediaArc); liaison and supporting overseas PR companies; usability & accessibility testing; web design; user acceptance testing; database development; project management; government procurement, etc.The role also involved close working with colleagues in the Talent Scotland team at Scottish Enterprise (http://www.talentscotland.com/) to align activities and ensure wider customer requirements were met and supported.I also project managed in 2002 the delivery of a B2B website (International Business Opportunities) for SDI that allowed overseas and Scottish companies to post their business opportunities (including sector, geography, timescales, etc). The system would then match up these opportunities and allow organisations to enter into dialogue (possibly under the guidance of staff within Scottish Enterprise or Scottish Development International) to hopefully reach a mutual business agreement.

This included meeting external companies to understand their strategic business needs and ensuring these were fully supported by the website itself. One deliverable was an online discussion forum where businesses could exchange ideas, swap information, look for joint business opportunities and other e-commerce collaborations. This discussion forum was launched in person in 1999 by Vint Cerf, the "Father of the Internet".My skills and expertise were also used by colleagues in the sister economic development agency - Highlands and Islands Enterprise - primarily as a technical consultant on the Small Company Innovation Scheme (SCIS) initiative, which involved reviewing technical progress with SMEs in Inverness, Mull and Oban. Was sole author on 20 separate "E-commerce Smart Guide" books that were distributed to Scottish businesses to demonstrate the benefits of embracing and integrating e-commerce into their business plans and processes.
