As the Head of IT at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, I am responsible for the operational management of all aspects of the organization's IT systems and infrastructure. I have successfully led the implementation of cloud-based systems and applications, resulting in improved efficiency and reduced costs. Responsible for supporting IT Users in solving computer related problems, installing and maintaining computer storage, software and servers and working with the wider IT Team to create workable IT services. Responsible for managing and maintaining the school’s 7 physical servers, including backup, anti-virus and network wide security, with 350+ desktops and 50+ wireless laptops. I am the senior member of IT support staff, managing accounts and access for 1200+ students and 100+ members of staff. Responsible for whole site IT services, being the senior technical point of contact for teaching staff, admin staff and management. Recently undertaken a project with the local council in order to consolidate our network with the council’s in order to offer a more streamlined approach to content filtering, allowing the council to actively monitor and segregate staff traffic from student traffic. I designed and implemented the school’s first Exchange Server with Microsoft Outlook 2010 integration. I also introduced Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 to help maximise the school’s internet connection efficiency through the use of site side web caching. I also brought in a web based IT Helpdesk (Spiceworks) to allow users to submit IT support requests via a browser and receive timely and informative email updates regarding their requests. Other developments I have made include the implementation of Windows Deployment Services to streamline the installation of workstation operating systems and the configuration of WSUS to keep all Windows based systems on site up to date.
