Leading rare plant surveys, invasive plant surveys, and seed collection efforts at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

As a Vegetation Management Research Associate at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, I supported the Natural Resources Department in preserving and restoring native plant communities while managing invasive species. My duties included processing (utilizing manual and machine separators) and cataloging native seeds, developing geodatabases for field surveys using ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 Connect, conducting rare and invasive plant surveys, mounting herbarium voucher specimens, implementing invasive species control measures, along with representing the Great Basin Institute at a career fair. Through these efforts, I contributed to the protection of Whiskeytown NRAs ecosystems and biodiversity.

Led invasive plant early detection surveys for the NPS Klamath Inventory & Monitoring Network (KLMN). Surveys were conducted on roads, trails, and off-trail areas in all parks within the Klamath Network (Crater Lake National Park, Lassen Volcanic National Park, Redwood National & State Parks, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Lava Beds National Monument, Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve). Responsible for daily logistics, crew safety, data backup, gear maintenance, and vehicle inspections. Cross trained in KLMN Vegetation Monitoring Protocol.

Performed Early Detection & Rapid Response, invasive plant treatment, and rare plant surveys across Mt Tamalpais as part of the One Tam collaborative. Mapped invasive and rare plants with GPS/GIS devices, and performed data entry and quality control for field mapping. Coordinated and collaborated with partner agencies to meet shared conservation goals.

Collected recreational fishery data and biological samples at public launch ramps, docks, piers, jetties and beach/banks sites using standardized survey protocols in San Mateo and San Francisco Counties. Identified finfish and invertebrates to species and collected fish lengths, weights and other biological data.

Conducted backcountry aquatic restoration within Kings Canyon National Park in a remote high elevation basin to benefit endangered mountain yellow-legged frogs and the native ecological community. I removed introduced fish with gill nets and electrofishers, and performed visual encounter surveys for amphibains and reptiles on 10 day work hitches.

Responsible for the day to day upkeep of several county parks. Performed trail work, vegetation management, native habitat restoration, public engagement, enforcement of regulations, and general maintenance. In this role I gained extensive experience with a variety of hand and power tools, led trail maintenance tasks, and trained incoming staff.
