Hi, my name is Steven Do (pronounced like cookie dough). I am an Army service member pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). My interest in electrical engineering started with a funny short story. I joined a program in middle school known as AVID, a college preparatory program focusing on critical thinking and structural organization. Our class was tasked with choosing a degree path to pursue. I was uncertain about my field of study, but I found my interest in technology, primarily gaming. Unfortunately, I realized that my creativity needed to be improved to pursue a video game design career. I eventually landed on the idea of electrical engineering and stuck to it like flies on honey. However, the path I took to get here was a journey. I joined the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) in my senior year of high school in 2015. When asked why I joined, I can only say that the recruiter caught me on a good day, and I never looked back! I naturally picked a Military Occupation Specialty (MOS); I could relate to electrical engineering, Radio Communications, and Security Repair (94E). I gained valuable skills in repairing radios and broadened my perspective through this job. As I progressed through my career in the Army, I took on leadership positions, including managing a team of up to 11 personnel in communications and electronics maintenance operations. While being an active service member in the TXARNG, I also needed to progress my civilian career. In 2019, I started working as an Electronics Worker at the Texas Military Department. Here, I would develop a deeper understanding of performing my MOS and other troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques. Afterward, I went on to work as a Test Technician II at Ericsson. While working in either of the two jobs, I continued my education and pursued a degree in electrical engineering. Unfortunately, my work-to-school ratio became too high, so I became a full-time student. This is a step in the right direction rather than a step back. Through my experiences, I discovered that many field experts need help communicating their ideas effectively. To bridge the gap, I will pursue a Master's in Business Administration at UTD. My journey has diverted, strayed, and evolved many times, and I am sure it will happen again. I welcome change so I can adapt and overcome it.Action and adaptability create opportunity.-Garrison Wynn
