I am the Head of Construction and Engineering at leading UK law firm Burges Salmon LLP. A private practice solicitor having originally trained and worked as a chartered quantity surveyor and spent time in-house with a leading global manufacturer of precision engineered power plant and turbine technology. My clients operate in a variety of sectors including energy, transport, utilities, the built environment and defence. I advise them on construction and engineering issues (both disputes and contract drafting and negotiation) relating to agreements associated with the funding, development, sale/disposal and operation & maintenance of built assets. In the nuclear sector, I advise on contracts relating to the development of new nuclear power plants (both fission and fusion) and associated infrastructure, legacy waste management facilities and ancillary assets for operational plants.My renewable energy experience includes advising providers of project finance, investors, developers and members of the supply chain on procurement and contracting issues relating to the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and O&M of power plants including onshore and offshore wind farms, solar pv and other renewable technologies.I also advise funders, occupiers, investors, developers and members of the supply chain on the development, sale/disposal, operation & maintenance and facilities management of other infrastructure assets as well as built environment assets such as student accommodation, offices, residential developments, industrial units and leisure facilities. I have wide experience of all forms of engineering and building contracts and particular expertise in the NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract having advised and trained clients on their use for over 20 years.
