Project manager of the Liao Lab’s redfish acoustic telemetry project. The project was centered on studying the movement patterns of Red Drum (sciaenops oscillatus) in the Guana, Tolomato, and Matanzas inshore estuaries of northeast Florida. This required fishing and coordinating with local anglers and stakeholders to retrieve adult Red Drum so as to implant them with acoustic transmitters. This project required writing grant proposals for research equipment, maintaining and deploying acoustic hydrophone systems along submerged structures, maintaining state vehicles and vessels, maintaining multi-agency collaborative databases, animal welfare of research fish, performing in-field surgical implants of acoustic transceivers, designing/building bespoke field equipment, and managing equipment in a state of the art biotelemetry lab.The data retrieved was primarily analyzed using ARCGIS and R, and is expected to provide critical data to Florida's fisheries managers. Publication expected 2023.This project was made possible with grants and loans in collaboration with the Florida Acoustic Telemetry Network, Patagonia, SECOORA, Coastal Conservation Association, the Whitney Lab for Marine Bioscience, and the help of countless other committed anglers and conservationists.

COVID forced some shifts (as it did for everyone) and during that time I moved back to my hometown to re-ground. During this time, I had the pleasure of joining some colleagues at Fin Ex to educate and immerse people in the wonder of the Indian River Lagoon---a great fit at the time due to the safe outdoor setting. Guiding educational ecological tours in a unique red mangrove island ecosystem. These tours occurred both day and night (depending on bioluminescence presence) leading groups of up to 12.This position allowed me to productively channel my knowledge of island ecology and biogeography, mangrove ecosystems, and the local characteristics, flora, and fauna into educating folks on the significance of the Indian River Lagoon; a waterway that I was raised on and spent most of my young life learning about. I also started a program at Fin Ex that encouraged employees to volunteer with local seagrass and mangrove restoration projects in the lagoon in order to build a collaborative network of educators and ecologists. Being able to share my knowledge of this incredible ecosystem while educating folks about the importance of mangroves in fighting climate change was extremely rewarding..
