Examine books and records seeking compliance in tax law. Refer taxpayers for issues of non-compliance issues such as being unregistered for a specific tax regulation. 90% field time (field time has now been compromised based on Covid-19) auditing businesses. Prepare narratives, prepare processing forms, and Amended returns. Acted as a Mentor, training new candidates for the position. Constant tax research completed to allow for the ever changing tax laws. Areas of focus are Retail and Service industries, manufacturing, construction contractors, and cash businesses. Calculate tax due, penalty, and interest when liability is due. Process audits based on required procedures set up by the IL Department of Revenue audit bureau. Travel throughout the southern & western collar counties of Chicago. Utilize a laptop in which work is prepared and electronically submitted for review and processing. Also, started in IFTA International Fuel Tax Agreement, completing audits on trucking companies in the northeast region of Illinois.Acted as a Revenue Audit Supervisor over (8) auditors. Reviewed audits, approved time off, track audit performance, resolve tax issues with auditors and taxpayers. Held monthly inventory meetings with each auditor. Also held quarterly staff meetings keeping staff abreast of recent changes in tax law and regulations.
