About Steven Wallace

My name is Steven Wallace, and I am an Electrical Engineering Master’s Student at Arizona State University. I have previously worked as an Analog / Mixed Signal Design Engineer at Zenith Semiconductors, and I hope to gain another position of the same type once I graduate from school. My undergraduate degree is in Biomedical Engineering from Clemson University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors. At Zenith Semiconductors, I was involved in the design of several different blocks inside an automotive LDO and buck converter, which are the company's first two products. One of my first projects with this company was the design of a bandgap reference, which required skills in the Cadence design environment, understanding the thermal behavior of BJTs, and interpersonal communication with designers and layout engineers. I have also gained valuable experience in the design of voltage regulators, TLIM circuits, and using digital signals to trim resistance, current, or voltage. One of the most important circuits in analog design is arguably the differential amplifier, and my role at Zenith Semiconductors has given me ample experience in choosing topologies based upon input common mode range, input offset voltage, and gain-bandwidth product considerations. I am eager to make a difference in the Analog / Mixed Signal Design space, and I look forward to working with you.

  • Zenith Semiconductor Corporation
Analog / Mixed Signal Design Engineer
Zenith Semiconductor Corporation Mar 2023 - May 2024
    Chandler, Arizona, United States
    • In the design of a buck converter project, I refined and helped design the bandgap voltage reference, low dropout regulator for an internal voltage supply, high side current sensor, low side current sensor, and error amplifier.• In the design of a Low Dropout Regulator (LDO) project, I was instrumental in the optimization of the bandgap voltage reference, an internal voltage supply called Vreg, and the thermal limit (TLIM) circuit.• Thoroughly researched the basic differential amplifier topologies, including those with a PMOS differential pair, an NMOS differential pair, or one made from BJTs.• Adjusted the delicate balance between bandwidth, input offset voltage, and transconductance for an error amplifier used in the current control loop of a buck converter.• Improved the temperature coefficient of the bandgap voltage reference in several different design circumstances through adjusting the ratio of resistors, the magnitude of current flow, and the choice of whether to use cascoded current mirrors.• Developed, organized, and tested four trimming circuits into clearly labeled schematics, whose respective purposes were to adjust the amount of resistance in the bandgap circuit, the amount of current supplied by a zero temperature coefficient block, the amount of current at which a current limit condition occurs, and the amount of current at which a zero cross condition occurs.• Practiced effective communication with the layout engineers on a daily basis regarding the placement of various devices, which routes ought to be thicker than others, and the dummies which surround components having critical matching.• Refined my understanding of the Linux operating system, the Cadence Virtuoso design environment, the maestro view, run plans, design intents for communication with layout, and the placement and routing of devices in a layout view.
  • Clemson University Bioengineering
    Student Researcher - Orthopaedics
Clemson University Bioengineering Jan 2020 - Dec 2021
    Clemson, South Carolina, United States
    • Drafted an academic literature review that summarized over one hundred complex Tissue Engineering papers into a concise summary of the subject.• Presented at an institution-wide conference regarding intervertebral disc tissue engineering and its significance in the modern world.• Collaborated with peers and graduate students to perform cell culture experiments and to analyze histology samples from various parts of the body.
