As a Senior Member of Technical staff for the Outside In Team at Oracle, I took on many responsibilities besides the day to day work of addressing customer and QA defects in the Office input filters. I was responsible for the nightly build, test and reporting system as well as acting as a backup release manager for when the primary release manager was unavailable. The role of build manager gave me exposure to Jenkins/Hudson and the world of Continuous Integration. I utilized this knowledge to prototype a Hudson test job where developers could isolate their specific changes and test them before delivering them to the code tree. As the backup release manager I was able to assist support by making sure that customer defect escalations were delivered on time, even when the primary release manager was unavailable. Not only did this keep the queue of escalations on track, it was a great relief to the release manager when he returned as he could focus on newer requests instead of having to catch up with older ones.While my day to day programming language was C\C++, I have also dabbled a little bit in C#, writing an application to parse the XML of Microsoft Outlook for Mac (OLM) files to determine which elements map to which email fields. With this application I could more easily implement an OLM input filter. Besides working with the Microsoft Office input filters, I also was responsible for handling many of the email format input filters. Many of these filters were first written when the formats were undocumented and I slowly updated them to conform to the documentation that Microsoft has released. The result was better accuracy when rendering and converting email documents.
