The Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center is an urban nature center dedicated to igniting life-long curiosity, understanding, and respect for nature through education. The Center believes a personal connection to nature is an essential part of life, and offers inner-city children and adults an opportunity to learn about nature through hands-on experiences. While I was Board president, I led the transformation of the Board from a collection of local parents to a group of professionals with experience in education, fund raising, and operations.

While at Virchow Krause, I had responsibility for practice strategy, new business development, and project management for the Energy Markets consulting practice. I specialized in serving the needs of power companies operating in competitive energy markets, and supporting operations in markets throughout the United States including Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO), Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland Regional Transmission Organization (PJM), New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), and California Independent System Operator (CAISO). I led several engagements including the development and outsourced operation of an information service to forecast daily electric load for a New York based electricity retailer.

As a Director of Energy Management Solutions, I was responsible for leading Energy Management systems projects supporting long-term planning, day-ahead scheduling, real-time dispatching, and after-the-fact settlement of power generation assets in multiple energy markets. As Director of Load Forecasting and Analysis, I led the development of a retail energy load forecasting system, forecasting electricity demand in 15-minute increments for one- and three-day outlooks. Finally, as Director of East Power Generation and Supply, I managed company-wide activities associated with integrating existing wholesale energy operations into new competitive markets in the East. The scope included filings and agreements, market trials, accounts set-up, bidding and scheduling tools and strategies, dispatch systems and communications links, metering, settlements systems, and plant personnel training.

I was responsible corporate-wide for all business operations activities of this aerospace services company, which was the second largest contractor to NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Departments within my scope of management include Management Information Systems, Document and Records Management, Technical Writing, ISO 9001 Certification, Procurement, Contracts, Asset Management, Human Resources, Training, and Facilities. I oversaw the implementation of a Virtual Private Network connecting all SPACEHAB remote locations into a common network, and the consolidation of business systems to the headquarters site at Washington, D.C. I also oversaw the implementation of an engineering document warehouse, including document control systems and processes. I initiated and managed the efforts leading to ISO 9001 certification for SPACEHAB, achieving certification in the quickest time witnessed by our certifying body.

I was responsible for engineering cost analysis, project planning and management, advanced space systems design, Management Information Systems, and internal strategic business planning. In this capacity, I led the program scheduling and tracking activities for all Space Station Freedom prime contractor design tasks associated with NASA’s Johnson Space Center. I also planned, budgeted, and tracked all engineering analysis activities associated with the development and launch of a fleet of rockets for a private launch vehicle company. This project resulted in the world’s first launch into space of a private rocket with a private payload. I subsequently planned and managed the due diligence activities related to the successful purchase of a telecommunications equipment manufacturing company (renamed to Eagle Telecom International). As General Manager and Director of Finance of this acquired company, I was responsible for all manufacturing activities, including production, purchasing, receiving, inventory control, and shipping. I was also responsible for all financial and administrative activities, including budgeting, cash flow analysis, cost analysis, accounting, financial reporting, human resources, and facilities management.

I was responsible for new business development, executive consulting, project planning and management, staff development, and staff and client training in the consulting division of this Big Eight accounting and consulting firm. I was the manager responsible for the development of a health care industry consulting practice in the Houston region, where I developed a working relationship with eight of the largest health care institutions in the region. I was one of three project leaders on an engagement to design and implement a computer system to automate the collection efforts of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for the first time. Here I was responsible for project planning and oversight, software systems design, programming, testing, integration, and go-live activities.
