Mr. Johnston is a Software Research Engineer with experience in the development of embedded systems within the domains of research, consumer, and government products. He specializes in System-on-Module (SOM) software development for microprocessors and microcontrollers. While working with Alliant Techsystems, Inc. (ATK), Mr. Johnston's focus was on the design and development of embedded systems on a wide range of development platforms. Beginning in 2009 his work at ATK included development of perimeter mapping software using a multiple microcontrollers for the Vehicle Launched Scatterable Antitank System (VLSAS), Linux Board Support Package (BSP) configuration and Linux kernel modification for an Automated Flight Safety System (AFSS), and creation of software testing procedures for the 25mm Individual Airburst Weapon System (XM25).In 2011, Mr. Johnston began working with Adventium Labs as a full-time employee. His work with Adventium included integration of a Mixed Criticality, Assured, Real-Time Virtual Machine Monitor (MiCART) on the Xen hypervisor and development of an assured chain-of-trust on standard commodity workstations. His work to create an assurance of workstation safety focused on the research and development of low level software utilizing the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT). His work to create an assurance of server safety focused on the research and development of low level software utilizing the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC). His work on securing embedded platforms focused on medical devices and utilized numerous hardware solutions including ARM and x86 and multiple software platforms including Xen and the Genode OS Framework for microkernels.In 2019, Mr. Johnston began working with SIFT (Smart Information Flow Technologies) as a full-time employee.
