Profile bio

About Steven Melching

Welcome to my impersonal electronic resume!I’m an Emmy- and WGA-Award nominated creator, developer, writer, and producer for features and television, primarily in animation, with some forays into live-action and video games. Currently repped by Peter McHugh at THE GOTHAM GROUP.I gravitate toward smart storytelling in the genre space: science fiction, fantasy, horror, superheroes, and the like. I’m comfortable with everything from breezy adventure for all ages to intense action for mature audiences.I have extensive experience writing for existing franchises, finding new ways to tell great stories in animation for Star Wars, Batman, Transformers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and more. I also sold a live-action feature film script to Paramount Pictures, co-wrote the 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie for Lucasfilm Animation, comic books for Dark Horse, video games for LucasArts, co-wrote and produced an award-winning live-action short film, and co-created the pioneering Star Wars fan film “Troops,” which helped kick off the internet short film boom of the late 1990s.I love the collaboration of the writers room and working with creatives in all phases of production, from writing and design to storyboard, voice recording and directing to post. I like to think I'm a positive and productive presence in the room. What’s my background? Since you asked, I was raised in a military family, and grew up near Air Force bases in New York, California, Nebraska, Hawaii, Washington DC, and Colorado. I got to see most of the country while having to make new friends and assimilate into a new school every few years. I played a lot of soccer until I reached high school, when my interests shifted to music (yes, I was a band geek), art, Dungeons & Dragons, and writing. As a child, I was determined to dig up dinosaur bones for a living, but watching reruns of Star Trek on television and the release of the original Star Wars movie in theaters inspired me to take a different path. I followed in the footsteps of the mythical "George Lucas” and attended the USC School of Cinema-Television, then worked a variety of entry-level jobs in Hollywood, including New Line Cinema story department intern, film production assistant, script reader, and theme park puppeteer, before getting my first break as a television writer. And the rest, as they say, is on my resume...

Listed skills include Comic Books, Video Games, Film, Animation, and 18 others.
