Steven is an innovator, an entrepreneur and the founder and co-director of three companies; Peace Marsh Renewables Ltd, VertAx Wind Ltd and Innovative Offshore Developments Ltd. Peace Marsh Renewables is primarily an on-site renewable energy consultancy, advising clients on what technologies best suit their location, their requirements, their processes, buildings and their budget. In addition to providing advice, they also spec, design, source and manage the tendering and installation processes for the equipment recommended.The company VertAx, owns extensive IP relating to Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) technology and is involved in the development of VAWT machine concepts with ranging outputs from a few kW to multi-megawatt for use on and offshore.Innovative Offshore Developments owns IP to concepts for a motion resistant deep water heavy lift crane and supply vessels, related floating wind turbine foundation and wind turbine deployment vessel.Steven has received recognition within the wind and renewables industry as taking a lead in the development of VAWT technology, with several patents issued and patents pending and numerous papers published. Coming from a civil and electro/mechanical engineering background, Steven first started being active in the wind and renewables industries in 1989. He has since held a number of senior roles over the past 35 years in the industry, notably the last two roles were Director of Technology (VWE Ltd) and Director of R & D (VWE Ltd). Both an experienced hands-on engineer, as well as an accomplished desktop engineer, additionally having an extensive knowledge of Building Services, Controls and Energy Management. Steven is also an entrepreneur, having participated in the formation and management of a number of related businesses.Specialties: Steven specialises in most aspects of on-site microgeneration and the Built Environment. He is also considered an expert in VAWT's, from small kW rated machines to huge multi-megawatt off-shore designs. He has undertaken industry studies, the design / development of small and large VAWT’s, turbine control system strategy and development, support tower design, site surveying for micro wind, writing of product documentation and the preparation for certification to MCS and IEC 61400 requirements. In recent years, he has worked closely with the department of Naval Architecture Ocean & Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde on designs for a range of noval motion resistant crane and operation vessels and related floating wind turbine foundations.
