Dr. Hartley is Professor of Marketing in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. He holds Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Business Administration, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hartley has also taught at the University of Colorado, the University of Minnesota, and many executive development programs. His teaching interests include marketing planning, leadership, and marketing research. He is a recipient of the Daniels College of Business Thomas Howard Teaching Award for Innovation and Business Relevance and also the John D. Hershner Free Enterprise Award. In addition he held the Walter Koch Endowed Chair in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from 2003 through 2007, and served two 5-year terms as Chair of the Marketing Department.Dr. Hartley is a co-author of the best-selling text Marketing, 12th Edition, which is a leader in the introduction and application of high-involvement and technology-based pedagogies. Other books include Marketing: The Core, 6th Edition, Business-to-Business Advertising, Marketing: Canadian Insights and Applications, and several case books. Dr. Hartley’s research has appeared in the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Advertising Research, Industrial Marketing Management, and other business publications. The Journal of Marketing Research article was a finalist for the American Marketing Association O’Dell Award. An article published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science received the Best Article of the Year Award.Dr. Hartley is an active consultant to firms such as Texas Instruments, Samsonite, Citicorp, Sunstrand, and Coors, and has served as an expert witness regarding the use of marketing research in litigation. He has been an employee at several large and small corporations including US WEST, Control Data Corporation, and Rosemount, Inc.
