Jan 2014 - Oct 2016

Senior Designer

Cheltenham

Senior Designer/Art editor for ARCHANT publishing working on a variety of National titles including France, Discover Britain, Living France, Turning Pro (photography), Cotswold Life and more. At this time was also asked to Design and Artwork a number of one-off Bookazine titles inc. The Royal Wedding, 2012 Year of Sport, Best of Britain, Wild Travel and more. Was also utilised by the marketing team where I was asked to design Exhibition and Marketing Graphics for my titles - as well as creating Calendars and web-banners. At this time also given the opportunity to work on a state of the art Content Management System uploading and managing all the assets. One of my main achievements included handling the 'redesign' of Wild Travel. This included identifying a new set of smart and versatile fonts that would allow us increased flexibility with layout; more specifically on the cover and opening spreads. All sections of the mag were restyled with even more attention given to the selection of images. This involved generally using fewer images overall, but displaying them a slightly less cluttered way which hopefully increases their impact. All of the elements on the pages were given more room to breathe, whilst also attempting to embrace as much 'white space' as possible. This wasn't a straightforward exercise considering the page area was also being reduced as well. Before this I successfully redesigned the overall look of Heritage including handling the mast head change to 'Discover Britain' in the middle of the year. I also designed 3 supplements I was able to balance my duties with Heritage to also design and produce 4 bookazines and a calendar during the 12 month period. All of these titles were created from scratch with a new look and feel given to each.

I also worked on a variety of side projects such as Exhibitions, Bookazines, Media Packs and Subscription Marketing. All this work was produced with great speed and accuracy and utilised all current standard Design software. I was regularly asked to work across platforms in assisting other magazine teams in the Archant portfolio where I was able to utilise my ability to work under pressure.
