I am a former International President, global board member and current trustee of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) and recipient of the Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology. I steadfastly maintain that I DO NOT look like Colonel Sanders. On December 20, 2007, EDO Corporation Merged with ITT Corporation to form a top-ten U. S. defense supplier. As Director of R&D I filed a patent on a method of developing a composite laminate with enhanced thermal conductivity and integral electrical conductivity.In August 2010 I joined Business Development with the expressed goal of finding strategic customers for our Braided / RTM technologies (pioneered by our Fiber Innovations division) and our patented and proprietary technologies in both thermally and electrically conductive composite laminates.

During my time as Engineering Manager I assembled, organized and lead a small, dynamic and talented team of engineers who covered the full range of engineering disciplines: R&D, Design, Analysis, M&P, Producibility, Lean Manufacturing, Configuration Management and Project Management. While continuing to manage the Engineering Department I sold a contract to develop a dialysis tank for in-home kidney dialysis. I then lead the program to develop the tank and managed the first-phase production contract for a contract value of $1.1 million.In April of 2006 I became the Director of R&D, targeting electrically and thermally conductive composite structures as a significant growth area to be developed. I also assisted with technical market development and was co-developer of a nano constituent-filled Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) paint.

I was primary technical focal for the installation of the $11M fully-automated titanium Chemical Process Line and coordinated the installation of a $1.7M Chemical Process laboratory for process development by Operations Technology.I was the Boeing-appointed mentor in Engineering and Science at Rainier High School in the International Baccalaureate program and a member of the management-appointed “Re-Engineering Operations Technology” ad hoc task force.

Chemically Bonded Ceramic Tooling Product Specialist
I lead the technology license, technology transfer and facilitization of the CBC tooling facility. In the process of designing the new production facility we reduced real fabrication hours by 62% while reducing projected scrap rates by 83%.I then supported Market Development by using personal SAMPE contacts to build a CBC tooling customer database. I gave numerous technical presentations including the SME Tooling for Composites and served on its technical committee in 1988 and 1989 and as General Conference Chair in 1990. During this time I also chaired sessions at two International SAMPE conferences and was a frequent contributor to "Advanced Composites", "Advanced Materials and Processes" and "Materials Engineering" magazines.During that time I also worked with advertising agencies on concepts, layout and technical content of brochures and magazine advertisements with high demonstrated brand recognition.
Materials &Processes Engineer
I was often brought in to troubleshoot ailing programs with a material & processing problem. On one such program an 83%rejection rate was reduced to less than 6% in the first month. As Project Engineer on the V-22 Longeron program, I supported the fabrication of some of the largest room-temperature/high-temperature carbon fiber tooling built up to that time (40 feet in length). As a result of that work I was asked to become involved in tooling R&D searching for a reliable, matched-CTE tooling material for 350 degreee F curing Graphite/Epoxy. This lead to the license of CBC tooling materials.
Producibility Engineer
I implemented many Engineering improvements and cost savings employing the development of innovative tooling concepts and process techniques. On one program I lowered program rejection rates from 97% to 5% and from 40% to 0% on another. In 1986 I was asked to lead a solar array redesign team for improved producibility yielding a net reduction in fabrication cost of 30%, improved reliability and a weight savings of over 24 pounds per satellite at an estimated $20,000 per pound launch cost.
Experimental Plastics Fabricator, Composites And Elastomers
After several years of working in a number of plastics fabrication shops, I was priveleged to apply my fabrication skills to early hands-on fabrication of advanced materials for programs including the Hubble Space Telescope, ALCM, GSRS, Peacekeeper, Sea Lance and E3A and Low Observable elastomers.
