Saunders is a British-born communications analyst, investor, and digital media entrepreneur.In 2018 he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to the telecommunications industry and business.Saunders began his career as a technology journalist with McGraw-Hill in the 1980’s. In 2000 he launched Light Reading, an online media network covering telecommunications news, telecommunications research, and security news. Light Reading was acquired by UBM in 2005 for $33 million. Saunders then bought Light Reading back from UBM in January 2014, reselling it to Informa PLC two years later, having doubled both its revenues and audience.In the last 25 years, Saunders has won more than 100 awards for journalism, technology analysis, and digital media publishing, including:2010 - Min's Digital Media Marketer of the Year2009 - No. 2 position on Folio magazine's Folio 40 ranking of magazine industry influencers and innovators2008 – Inductee, Min's Digital Media Hall of FameSaunders is the Founder and serves on the board of the New IP Agency (NIA), a not-for-profit independent initiative providing information, education, analysis, community services and testing tosupport and accelerate the development of a global economy based on open, advanced, virtualized IP networks.Saunders is the author of three books: The Data Communications Gigabit Ethernet Handbook (McGraw-Hill, 1998), The McGraw-Hill High-Speed LANs Handbook (McGraw-Hill, 1995) and The True Story of King Arthur (48hourbooks, 2009).Steve splits his time between the US (Manhattan) and the UK (London, and Sussex). The company achieved a remarkable level of success in a short period of time: creating 47 engaged communities in industry verticals as varied as pharmaceutical manufacturing, oncology nursing, next gen communications security, digital signage, and more. Under Steve's leadership the business grew to over $20M in revenue in just over 2 years, and attracted over half a million opted-in business subscribers. . DeusM was funded by UBM, a UK-based event management company. Ultimately, UBM decided not to deploy the DeusM publishing model alongside its shows, choosing instead to focus on an "event only" publishing model. The best practices and Web technology that were developed by DeusM live on today in numerous communities - including Light Reading, Information Week, Dark Reading, EETimes, and Design News.
