My passion has always been understanding how things work and what drives others to do what they do. “Steve-San, Remember, you can build a mountain out of grains of sand” Katsumi Tezuka, 1990We all want solutions, we all want better outcomes. We want the magic "silver bullet". The quote by one of my Sensei above, taught me that the “silver bullet” is a mirage. Improvement in business can only be done by hard work in small steps thru learning and applying the tools. Early in my career, I worked for a Japanese automaker. Over the next few years, I drank from the firehose of Lean. I learned tools, a different way of thinking and the importance of culture change. Most of all, I learned the role and value of people in Lean systems.Next, I landed in an organization that was an early adopter of Toyota Production System (TPS). There was dynamic leadership and that Lean way of thinking, Here, I gained valuable insight and experience in applying the TPS Principles in a traditional business. I also learned the importance of people development and servant leadership. During my tenure, we grew revenue by 10X and became a leader in our industry. Books were written about us and the curious flocked to see how we operated. As a result of lean and servant leadership, the organization produced many individuals who went on to be highly successful business leaders. I was able to successfully apply much of what I learned at my next employers. I also honed my skills and acquired new ones. In 2012, I decided to take this knowledge in a different direction. Consulting requires a much different mindset than a traditional position. The mix of people, industries, problems and culture have been a challenge. And the experiences along the path have been fulfilling and rewarding.Leading others to new levels of understanding to solve problems and improve processes. Creating solutions that exceed customer expectations.
