I was recruited to establish and steer a pioneering initiative aimed at tackling the global drowning epidemic. Together, we collaborate closely with national and global partners to identify, design, and implement effective and measurable solutions in public health, disaster risk reduction, and community preparedness.At the forefront, I lead a team of dedicated programme, technical and funding specialists, working hand in hand with policymakers, donors, and civil society to drive long-lasting policy and institutional change. Through evidence-based programmes, we have successfully secured institutional funding from donors such as UK Aid, Irish Aid, and other bilateral donors. Additionally, we have achieved central government budget allocations in the countries where we operate, solidifying our impact and sustainability.To amplify our efforts, I spearhead multiple international mechanisms that position drowning prevention as a political, health, climate change, and development priority. By partnering with entities including UN agencies like the World Health Organization, UNICEF, research institutions, INGOs, and governments, I have helped successfully position drowning prevention as a priority issue. As a Divisional Sea Safety Manager I was responsible for the management of 130 volunteer sea safety advisors. The advisors provided an objective and impartial free sea safety advice service to the public at key boating locations. I recruited and trained over 100 volunteers whilst in post and expanded and developed the service throughout the UK and Ireland.

In 2007 l was seconded to Surf Life Saving Australia’s headquarters in Sydney to build and develop a strategic organisational level partnership. My role was also to lead the establishment of a national risk management and safety programme across federal Australia, working closely with states, territories and the national government. The programme was successfully implemented in 2008.
