With a staggering annual toll of over 230,000 lives lost, predominantly in lower- and middle-income countries, our mission was clear and urgent.Since its inception, the department has evolved into a dynamic and diverse team, encompassing research, MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning), advocacy, programme implementation, and fundraising. Together, we collaborate closely with national and global partners to identify, design, and implement effective and measurable solutions in public health, disaster risk reduction, and community preparedness. At the forefront, I lead a team of dedicated programme, technical and funding specialists, working hand in hand with policymakers, donors, and civil society to drive long-lasting policy and institutional change. Through evidence-based programmes, we have successfully secured institutional funding from donors such as UK Aid, Irish Aid, and other bilateral donors. Additionally, we have achieved central government budget allocations in the countries where we operate, solidifying our impact and sustainability. To amplify our efforts, I spearhead multiple international mechanisms that position drowning prevention as a political, health, climate change, and development priority. By partnering with entities including UN agencies like the World Health Organization, UNICEF, research institutions, INGOs, and governments, I have helped successfully position drowning prevention as a priority issue.
