I am a primary contact point for media enquiries for the Department of Communities on the full range of its activities, on a proactive and reactive basis. I write media statements and media responses and liaise and negotiate regularly with a variety of print, electronic and sector media.I also acted in the role of Manager of Media Relations for the Department of Communities and was tasked with forming a new media liaison unit, combining the media units of five separate State Government agencies into an integrated, cohesive and functional unit, with the necessary corporate support, policy frameworks and working relationships to operate successfully.

I was a member of the Department of Communities - Housing (formerly the Housing Authority) media team, operating from the agency's head office. I worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer, corporate executive and private and community sector partners, researching and writing media responses, media statements and speeches on a range of housing portfolio matters for the Minister for Housing and for the agency. These projects included Perth Arena, the Old Treasury Building development and the Albany Entertainment Centre.I worked regularly in partnership with corporate communications professionals from other State Government agencies, private sector construction companies, property developers and industry groups as well as architects and designers.

As Public Relations Manager for the Department of Transport (subsequently the Department for Planning and Infrastructure), I was responsible for a range of the Departments' public relations activities. I advised senior management on media and public relations issues, developed communications strategies, maintained relationships with key media and had responsibility for the strategic and operational management and direction of the Communications branch. This encompassed communications policy issues, budget matters, business planning, contract management, recruitment and staff development. I also acted on two occasions as Media Secretary to the Minister for Police and Emergency Services.
