C&I / Nuclear Safety Case Engineer within the Fuel Route Systems branch at EDF Energy's central engineering base, located in Gloucester.Engagement with a number of projects and work streams, including:The development of Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) models for safety critical systems and operations at nuclear power stations, using Risk Spectrum software.Interpreting the PSA model output (minimal cutsets, importance and sensitivity analysis) in order to identify problem areas, and effectively guide modification work to ensure that fuel route operational risk is ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable).Specifying and developing new C&I systems for fuel route equipment critical to nuclear safety.Development of Fault Tree models (using Risk Spectrum) for C&I systems, to allow system reliability and availability to be derived.Analysis of dependent failures - for C&I systems and operations staff.Authoring and verifying nuclear safety related engineering change documentation (Category 2; AV2).Trained and experienced (under mentorship) in human error quantification, using the NARA (Nuclear Action Response Assessment) methodology; an EDF sponsored development of HEART (Human Error Assessment and Reduction Technique).Liaised with Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) inspectors, for work areas including C&I based protection systems and probabilistic safety assessment.Liaised with power station staff and contract partners, to ensure C&I projects are successful by utilising the IEC 61508 'V' model for project life cycles; From ensuring the requirements are specified correctly, to guiding the production of operations and maintenance documentation.

Primarily worked on the update and revalidation of safety cases for the fuel route control and protection systems for Hinkley Point B and Hunterston B nuclear power stations.My role involved extensive review of the Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) fuelling machine control systems, including the use of fault tree analysis to assess those systems and the operating procedures being used, followed by optioneering work to propose solutions when areas for improvement were identified.
