I have over 36 years experience in Power Generation maintenance and currently work as a Shift Maintenance Mechanical Fitter/ nominated supervisor at Longannet Power Station, the second largest coal fired power station in Europe. My key responsibilities are to maximise production by a schedule of frontline proactive and reactive maintenance. Changing market conditions have meant a high level of plant starts and shutdowns at short notice requiring optimum plant availability. I work closely with Longannet's shift production team to prioritise and plan essential and preventative maintenance within given timescales to ensure a high degree of plant availability to the production team. My role within shift maintenance requires the highest degree of experience, flexibility, dedication and determination, with the ability to respond to any plant defects which arise within the site covering a vast range of mechanical plant. Working to the highest standards of health and safety is paramount and all work must be carried out in accordance with the company's safety rules and permit to work system to achieve safety from the system at all times. My responsibility as a nominated supervisor is to maintain a safe place of work, supervise internal staff and contractors when required, supervise any permits issued to the shift maintenance team, and carry out any risk assessments as required.
