Stijn Daniels has a Master of Science degree in Business Engineering (KU Leuven, Belgium – 1991) and a doctoral degree (PhD) in Transportation Sciences (Hasselt University, Belgium - 2010). Since July 2022 he is employed at Transport & Mobility Leuven. He is also a part-time professor Road and Transport Safety at KU Leuven, faculty of Engineering. His primary interest is in road safety and its relation to public policy: causes and mechanisms associated with road crashes and near-crash events, effects of road design on crash frequency and severity, safety issues for vulnerable road users, effectiveness analysis including economic valuation.He has been involved as researcher and project leader in numerous projects in this domain, in both domestic and in international context. He has authored and co-authored more than 30 academic journal publications in the field of road safety. Stijn Daniels is president of ICTCT (International Cooperation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic Safety), an international association of researchers in road safety. He has been reviewer and guest editor for multiple scientific journals in his research domain.
