About Sandra S.

Chair Emerita of Maine Angels (2011-15), Member since 2008. While Chair, I grew membership in the angel investment network from 30 to > 70 members for which I was recognized by Mainebiz (the state biweekly biz magazine) as a "2013 Woman to Watch". M.A. has now invested over $41M in over 85 companies (Oct '24), and increased gender diversity (from 3 women in 2008, to ~30 female members or 1/3 of its 90 members).     Active angel investor member since 2008, past Chair from 2011-2015, investing in emerging & early stage northern New England companies, intentionally focused on female founded or led ventures. Since 2003, Maine Angels has been a cooperative membership mechanism for accredited investors to collaboratively identify, investigate & make investments in promising northern New England early-stage companies. We individually chose to make our own investments with interested other members, designating a deal lead to represent all of investing member individual investments in a portfolio company. We rely on the collective expertise of our colleagues to intentionally focus on investing in Maine and New England start-up companies. Since inception, Maine Angels members have invested over $31 million in 85+ emerging companies (including over 100 follow-on investments in our strongest portfolio companies)(Jan '21). There are now 29 female members, 32% of the 90 individual members and organizational representatives. In 2018, Sandra was one of the women featured in the inaugural issue of Moxie Maine Magazine (Jan) and awarded the SBA Maine Financial Services Champion of the Year (April). She was recognized by Mainebiz as a Woman to watch in 2013.
