I’ve been on the road for forty-five years, now. As a park ranger, a photographer, a writer, a father, and above all, a listener. All these stories have given life to my books—twenty-five books, now.I speak and present slide talks about my lifework: the American West and its land, people, and relationships. I've presented to more than 100 groups in 15 states. I also record commentaries and interviews locally and nationally for National Public Radio.Specialties: I’ve been looking for connections all my adult life. Now, I realize it’s time to tease out the best stories from the road and pass them on--not just in books, but in teaching and public speaking, as well.I cringe at bad writing and rejoice at elegant prose. I'm delighted to write or edit for your organization: to interview your supporters, hone your message, craft your narrative, edit your mission statement. And (as an Ansel Adams-award-winning photographer) I take pictures, too!My current book-in-progress is more personal than my past published work. Part detective story, part journey of self-discovery, "The Mike File" will resonate with all readers with a family member or friend living with learning or mental health issues—a link that embraces nearly everyone.
