I co-founded, and was on the management team of Goldhive, a subsidiary of Sysao PLC – An Oracle ERP services company (London), founded to fund and build Internet start-up companies. As technical director I was responsible for the production and delivery of custom built core business systems for a number of start-up web companies spanning the insurance, advertising and entertainment industries.This company was dissolved in 2002 following what became known as the Dot Com bomb.

My first position was as a software developer for a large life assurance company, at the dawn of the Internet becoming a viable platform for business. A colleague and I developed one of the first ever mainstream Internet applications in South Africa (a life insurance intermediary servicing site) in the first version of classic Microsoft ASP. It was Showcased by Microsoft at the “Bill Gates Technology Conference”, Johannesburg, March 1997, during Bill Gates' visit to South Africa.
