About Stu Warren
As of 2023, Working closely with the exceptional radio-chemists at PSI to deliver a world first in oncology treatment by designing a new facility TATTOOS as part of the wider IMPACT upgrade at PSI. More details to follow..... In addition I am also participating in another exciting project, working alongside an incredible team of people to build the world’s first commercially viable nuclear waste burning accelerator driven sub critical device; something to change the nuclear landscape for the better. Finally introducing the missing piece of the nuclear energy cycle and deal with the long-lived long lamented issues with radioactive waste. Prior to this, I worked at the ISOLDE facility as part of a cutting-edge experiment to measure DNA chemical folding with radioactive beam for the VITO experiment. Before VITO I was working with a small team to produce a new ion beam line for technical developments for the ISOLDE facility at CERN, OFFLINE 2. In the past I developed and built a compete fast timing detector array as part of the STEFF (University of Manchester) experiment, this included fission studies of U-235 with fast neutrons and Cf-252 spontaneous fission studies.

Designing and constructing unique scientific machines to produce large quantities of isotopes for chemical, physics research. Taking a conceptual design from theory into a real world machine and circumventing all the major issues along the way, this is a very large multidisciplinary field to cover. Working within the Cyclotron division to create the world’s first commercially viable Accelerator driven nuclear reactor to 'burn-up' the historic radioactive waste by-products from spent fuel and 'other' nuclear materials.
Postdoctoral Researcher
Leading a team of scientist and PhD students to produce a new ion beam line located in the ISOLDE experimental hall named VITO. The new VITO beam line is a 10 m extension with a 4.7 T superconducting NMR magnet and optical ion/atomic pumping to polarize beams for liquid drop Beta-NMR studies. As part of this project significant work has gone into the beam optics and matching for the systems using the tools COSY infinity, MATLAB and PIC transport methods. The computation of molecular and laminar flow vacuum systems using COMSOL for a differential pumping apparatus and finally a full GEANT4 simulation of beta asymmetric evaluation. This included a full detector redesign and re-optimisation for the challenging high magnetic field environment and replacing the full detector chain with modernized custom designed PCB and electronics for 20MHz per channel signal full analysis with FPGA digital processing
