One of the identified performance improvements from the previous role was that the system was reading from complex views that were being copied via Informatica. This project covered simplification of these layers to remove the complex views and apply the transformations in the ETL tier to reduce live read times to reduce runtimes. To do this I created a PL/SQL framework that was easy to support and maintain. This delivered a significant improvement in speed from a day to a matter of hours to complete and slow runtime performance affecting the channels was completely eradicated

After spending time working as the Cassandra DBA, I identified there was no clear path for testing and co-ordinating releases and non-functional improvements to the platform. I was therefore asked to cover the management of those activities to give better test coverage and create new tests for any new functionality that was developed. In addition to this I also began to pick up Oracle development tasks and began identifying various improvements that could be made to improve stability and performance.

Initially hired on a contract to provide Cassandra database improvements. Provided tuning and configuration changes to allow the Pega platform to meet it's non-functional ambitions and reduce incidents that were occurring. Creation of tools to allow support staff to monitor the cluster and check for faults. Creation of automated tools and processes to allow quick recovery and have step by step procedures to be followed to recover any failures with as little down time as possible.

Hired to manage the oracle development team. After a short time also took ownership of all data stores, including elastic search and various no SQL databases, plus additionally all Unix scripting and Autosys as part of this I assumed responsibility for all the development team members for these disciplines. Created a clear structure for development establishing coverage for core capabilities to ensure each project could be delivered correctly and the correct people would be involved. Established communication paths between the production and development teams to reduce go live issues and discourage a blame culture that had formed. Designed and developed data systems to allow various projects to go live utilising existing systems and pipelines as appropriate. I was also involved in diagnostics and resolution of a failed Microsoft dynamics CRM project to allow it to be utilised correctly.
