I currently teach academic English on the University of Manchester’s pre-sessional and in-sessional courses, including credit bearing postgraduate modules for humanities, sciences, and engineering. In addition to teaching, I am also involved in materials and assessment development. I am particularly interested in eLearning and digital learning design.

Taught on Lakeland University’s EAP program for international students. Role is to instruct students in the fundamental academic and English language skills necessary for a successful study at an English language institution. Position also involves supporting the EAP Coordinator in the ongoing development of the EAP program.- Synthesised academic and language skills training and testing to provide students with practical experience of authentic undergraduate assessment.- Demonstrated sensitivity to students with learning and emotional difficulties by providing academic and pastoral support.- Designed and implemented learner-centred materials to enhance students’ achievement of course objectives.- Accommodated alternative teaching methods and learning styles to ensure program aims suit staff and students. - Assisted the program coordinator with the streamlining of team meetings to reduce conflict, improve communication and support decision-making.- Introduced standardisation concepts for program assessment and student progression in order to improve the overall quality of the university’s EAP program.- Applied creative solutions to learners’ study and motivation problems, such as designing varied self-study programs for underachieving students.

Hired to teach three English language courses for Japanese undergraduates: Written Communication (academic writing), Oral Communication (discussion and presentation skills), and International Communication (reading and TOEFL skills).- Adapted course materials to e-learning format on the university’s virtual learning environment.- Liaised with program managers to assess suitability and effectiveness of syllabi.- Fostered a positive learning environment amongst unmotivated learners by using positive reinforcement to increase participation.- Improvised the delivery of remedial writing classes to engage students and to demystify the perceived complexity of essay writing.- Devised personalised speaking activities to encouraged greater participation in group discussions and presentations.

Engaged as lecturer and course coordinator on NCUK (www.ncuk.ac.uk) pre-master’s program. Primarily focused on preparing Japanese graduates for postgraduate study at British, American and Australian universities. Successfully helped over 50% of the program graduates to achieve overall merit or distinction grades on their future Master’s degrees.- Successfully revamped college’s proofreading service to improve efficient amongst academic and administration staff.- Collaborated with sales manager to boost student recruitment by providing recommendations on appropriate unique selling points for college’s courses.- Designed and delivered a research methods and project writing course for postgraduate students.- Produced critical path analyses for assessments on postgraduate training courses in order to help new teachers understand the complex integration of program elements.- Scheduled timetables for both part-time and full-time courses across the academic year.- Cooperated with partner organisation (NCUK) and attended exam board meetings in the UK to discuss candidate performance and course design.- Interviewed prospect new teaching staff and observed demonstration lessons during the recruitment process.

The pre-sessional programs ran during the summer with the aim of helping students to join their respective Master’s degrees in September/October.
