BlackRock is a global fund manager with the largest funds under management in the world. The group invests in all types of asset classes including equity, fixed income, cash management , alternative investment, real estate and advisory stratetgies. In mid 2010 the Australian division division outsourced all its fund accounting and unit pricing functions to an external provider except for the property component. As a result I was hired to take over this function - which represented around $500 million of funds under management.Holding the only such position in the Australian firm I am in the unique situation in working with dual areas within the business. As the property funds accountant I am an active member of the Property Portfolio Management Team, being involved in all aspects including strategy and asset management.I also sit with the oversigh team that manages the external provider of fund acoounting and unit pricing information for the rest of the business, and have gained exposure to funds ouside my previous experiance in property through this role. Major tasks undertaken in the oversight team have included rationalization and streamlining of all aspects of the unit pricing function, such as automation of post-price release review and developing efficiencies in variance signoffs.I also oversea various fund accounting functions such as quarterly distributions calculations, financial accounts preparation and custody and management fee reviews, and have grown my knowledge and expertise in taking over various fund administration tasks for ETF products domiciled and managed in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Orchard is a highly skilled property funds management group. The group manages quality Australian and New Zealand commercial property including traditional assets in office, retail and industrial sectors and a range of non-traditional assets such as medical centres, hospitals and child care centres. Over the 2+ years of employment I was involved in every fund under the groups management, working on both direct investments in property as well as internal cross investments a and external investments in both listed and unlisted assets.Before leaving I was responsible for two of the top three funds with the largest total asets under management including the group's flagship fund, the Diversified Property Fund. As the most experianced fund accountant, I was the primary point of contact from all other areas in the business including fund managers, treasury and investor and advisor services.Whilst at Orchard I also became the backup for the sytems administrator and developed and honed skills in system administration and writing and developing procedures and tools for streamlining and automating processes and reporting.
