Stuart Baddeley Work Experience Details
  • Gsk
    Vice President
    Gsk Nov 2015 - Present
    Stevenage, United Kingdom
I current lead a worldwide group, Protein Cellular and Structural Sciences that supports discovery activities across all of GSK’s therapeutic modalities. The group has two key remits:1. Design, generate and validate biological reagents to support both biopharm and small molecule discovery platforms. The group has expertise in broad range techniques for reagent generation, including molecular biology, protein expression, scale up, cell line development, genome editing, stem cells and primary cells. 2. Provide structural and mechanistic understanding of drug target, molecular recognition and mode of action to drive selection of the best molecules. Group expertise includes, crystallography, cryo-EM and a broad range of biophysical techniques (e.g. SPR, NMR, HDX-MS).
  • Gsk
    Director, Biological Science Uk
    Gsk Oct 2013 - Nov 2015
    Stevenage, United Kingdom
I currently lead a department of discovery scientists whose remit includes, biological reagent design and generation, assay development, screening for hit identification, compound profiling (SAR), mechanism of action studies and developability screening. The department utilises a broad range of technologies and skills sets to support the disease focussed business partners, including primary cell handling expertise, phenotypic screening, high content imaging, flow cytometry, functional ion channel screening, biophysics (high throughput SPR and Mass Spec) as well as an array of more conventional fluorescent screening techniques.
  • Gsk
    Mdr Portfolio Progression Head, Stevenage
    Gsk May 2013 - Nov 2015
    Stevenage, United Kingdom
  • Glaxosmithkline
Director, Screening And Compound Profiling Uk
    Glaxosmithkline May 2011 - Oct 2013
    Stevenage, United Kingdom
Responsible for a department of 40 scientists, supporting local therapy area groups. Department provides screening activities through provision of focussed screening and fragment screening for the identification of new chemical starting points as well as compound profiling activities to support lead optimisation chemistry. Department has a key expertise in utilising phenotypic screening approaches and developability screening.
  • Glaxosmithkline
Section Head, Screening And Compound Profiling Uk
    Glaxosmithkline Jan 2009 - May 2011
I managed a group of 10-12 scientists with the remit of performing compound profiling (SAR) of focussed screening for enzyme and GPCR targets in support immuno-inflammatory, cardiovascular and respiratory disease areas. I built an empowered, flexible and highly motivated organisation capable of meeting business needs. I demonstrated a track record of developing strong links with other business groups to evaluate and establish biophysical screening techniques as core technologies for routine SAR screening.
  • Glaxosmithkline
Team Leader, Screening And Compound Profling
    Glaxosmithkline Jul 2006 - Dec 2008
Responsibile for a team of 4-6 scientists with a remit for assay optimisation and execution of high throughput screens in miniaturised functional assay formats for GPCR, enzyme, kinase, nuclear receptor, transporter targets. Received an exceptional award for program leadership of a family GPCR C antagonist program.
  • Glaxosmithkline
Principal Scientist, Screening And Compound Profling
    Glaxosmithkline Jan 2005 - Jun 2006
Managed a team of 3 people carrying out assay development, HTS and SAR for GPCR and enzyme targets.
  • Glaxosmithkline
    Senior Scientist, Molecular Screening
    Glaxosmithkline Jan 2001 - Dec 2004
Responsible for development and execution of high through put screens. Received exceptional science award for the key role played in the evaluation and implementation of imaging plate readers.
  • Glaxosmithkline
    Scientist, Lead Discovery
